A New way of thinking.

This post comes with a WARNING. I will be talking about some heavy topics and if you want to avoid them, please don’t read further. I’m not trying to dissuade you, but I only want to give a heads up. I’m also reminding you, the reader, that this is my opinion. I’m all for having an intellectual debate, backed up by facts from experts.

Our current situation with COVID-19 has caused, in my opinion, a huge divide in how people think. All across the globe people are being told to stay at home, don’t leave unless absolutely necessary. Millions are out of work, worried about how they are going to be able to get food or pay their bills.

The divide can be clearly seen in the US. What’s the divide? It’s people who refuse to listen to scientific fact and reason, and those that listen. Its people thinking “I’m not sick and it only affects the old”, or “who cares?” and the groups of people who are immune compromised that worry about catching it from a simple letter in the mail. People are becoming so frustrated with our government and their political agendas. I’m worried that it’s going to turn into a powder keg and all it will take is one spark to set everything off. But there is something good going on right now, something most people didn’t expect.

The bright spot in all of this mess? It’s the people. yes, the same people I was just talking about beforehand. These people are trying to make things better, be it posting funny YouTube videos, having wholesome, relaxing watch parties through Discord or Zoom or Google Hangouts. People making wonderful, inspiring pieces of art and sharing it for the world to see on twitter or Instagram.

You see, being isolated as we have been, has made people realize that we need each other, now more than ever. We need that shoulder to cry on, that hand to pull us through the darkness, and push us out into the light. While we can’t, and shouldn’t, physically be together just yet, we can still reach out. We can pick up the phone, pull up messenger, or type up an email. You would be surprised how even a simple “hey, how are you?” can light up the darkest days and give someone hope for tomorrow.

We are living during a drastic time that future generations will talk about and analyze for years to come. Our children will have this as a chapter in their textbooks. I just hope they include at least one line of how humanity’s love and creativity rose from the ashes like a phoenix, burning brightly with its love and kindness.
